Face-to-Face Communication Instantly

Talk instantly with Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8. Mac users can communicate or collaborate on the fly, sharing instant messages, presence information, or files across time zones and locales. You can even make audio or video calls with contacts on the Mac or on Windows.

Manage your Contacts

See which contacts are available to connect to on your local network. Just search, click and connect using the new Contact Search tool. No need to scroll through a long list of contacts to find the person you want. Even if your contacts’ screen names frequently change you can assign nicknames to easily keep track of who’s who.

Make Video Calls

Using your Windows Live ID, you can make video or audio calls to communicate with your contacts. Now you can participate in face-to-face meetings with co-workers in other cities, countries, or on Windows PCs using audio and video conferencing.

File and Photo Sharing

Messenger for Mac 8 enables you to share, view and comment on photos and documents with a friend, or multiple friends, in real time.

Set Your Online Status

Thanks to Mac OS X Bonjour instant networking technology, people will be able to see if you’re on the local network. Enhancements in this new version include the ability to add a personal message to your contact information, so co-workers will know more about when you’re available to chat.

Corporate Network

For corporate users, increased support for Office Communications Server 2007 makes it easy to search a corporate address book from within Messenger and quickly find contacts and their presence information. With corporate users each having an account on your corporate network, communications are more protected.

By using Microsoft Messenger for Mac, you can see when your friends, family, coworkers, and associates at other companies are online and then communicate with them instantly. Messenger for Mac offers two types of communication services — a personal account and a corporate account.

Personal accounts work with the Windows Live Messenger service. Contacts that you add to your personal account include friends and family members. Instant message conversations with users are not limited to users who have Messenger for Mac installed on their computers. You can also have instant message conversations with users who have other instant messaging services, such as Yahoo! Messenger.

Corporate accounts use the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server service. Contacts that you add to your corporate account include coworkers who are in the same company as you and associates at other companies. Instant message conversations with other corporate account users are not limited to corporate users who have Messenger for Mac installed on their computers. With the federation features enabled on Live Communications Server, users can also have instant message conversations with users who have other instant messaging services, such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, and iChat users who are signed in with AOL accounts.

Additionally, Microsoft Messenger for Mac includes logging for the personal account. Log files can help troubleshoot various problems in Messenger such as connection problems, status failures, and other issues. Enabling logs saves a file containing personal information to ~/Documents. Anyone with access to this directory can open this file. By default, Messenger logging is turned off. For more information about how to enable logging for troubleshooting problems, contact support.
